Paper Pattern of Prelims Exam

Students will qualify prelims exam to appear in mains exam, There is “Negative Marking” in the Prelims exam. For every wrong answer, 1/3rd of marks allotted for every question will be reduced from the correct tally of score

  • The Prelims Exam of IAS will comprise of two papers: 1. General Studies (GS) of 400 marks, 2. Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) of 200 marks respectively.
  • All the question in both the papers will be multiple types.
  • The question papers will be set both in English and Hindi.
  • The Prelims Exam will be held for 2-hour time duration.
  • The Paper-II of Prelims Exam is qualifying in nature and candidates need to secure minimum qualifying marks of 33 %.
Paper 1General Studies – This paper will be counted for qualifying to write the Civil Services Mains exam. 200 Marks2 hours
Paper 2Aptitude Test (CSAT) – This paper is of qualifying nature, but candidate must score at least 33% marks in this paper. However, marks of this paper are not counted for writing the Mains examination. 200 Marks2 hours

UPSC Exam Eligibility criteria for the Civil Services Examination

Nationality

  • For the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service, and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • For the Indian Revenue Service, a candidate must be one of the following:
    • A citizen of India
    • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam  with the intention of permanently settling in India
  • For other services, a candidate must be one of the following:
    • A citizen of India
    • A citizen of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan
    • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India
